I like to say that Eric is part ‘Mad Man’ and part sportsman. He is an integrated marketing, advertising and content pro, whose love of the Ad game is only matched by his passion for the outdoors.
He’s lived in most parts of the country and pitched everything from Air Jordans at Foot Locker to center consoles on Facebook with equal enthusiasm. He studied sports science at Oregon State making him a Beaver, which is fitting since he loves playing in rivers, and graduated from UW-Milwaukee with a mass comm degree. He said peace to the Milwaukee winters when he landed a dream gig with CNN/Sports Illustrated and then worked for ad agencies, media firms managing multi-million-dollar budgets, and Cox Media Group (plus a part-time stint at Orvis to learn how to fly fish) – always with a mind for growth personally and professionally.
When we met working at an outdoor ad agency, Eric quickly dubbed me a fish out of water and invited me out on the Chattahoochee for a lesson. He gave me gear and a cold beer, and that’s when I knew he was alright. Almost 10 years later, I was stoked that he jumped at the chance to put his years of multi-dimensional marketing skills to work for brands in a more hands-on, holistic way. He left his corporate content marketing gig on a Friday and Vertical River was officially launched the next Monday.
Eric finds inspiration in travel, nature and his community of fishing & water sports enthusiasts, and conservation is a cause close to his heart. He believes there is no such thing as perfection, but admits that being on the water with his two kids is pretty darn close.
